Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is fast becoming a major issue, both politically and environmentally.   As the only truly sustainable form of energy production it raises two related drivers; the concepts of climate control and energy security.  The British Government has pledged to generate 15% of all energy production in England through renewable by 2020, which, if this target is to be achieved, will require many more renewable energy projects to be set up across the country.  What is interesting, however, is the recognition that small scale producers are capable of producing real inroads into this target and are as important to the future of this industry as the larger organisations and projects.  Murrell Ashworth LLP is one of the few practices in the country that not only offers renewable energy expertise but also focuses on helping the smaller scale commercial producers in all areas of the industry, including onshore wind, hydro, solar and biomass projects.

Our team can offer a comprehensive service to clients across all aspects of project work including finance, corporate and project documentation as well as property and development work.   We work with landowners, project companies and individuals at all stages of a project, from the initial drafting and negotiation of land interests to the negotiation of all project documentation, energy contracts and financial infrastructure.   We can also provide advice and support to community ownership schemes on issues of ownership and structure.    Where additional expertise is required for particular legal and non legal issues a project may encounter, the team has developed a network of specialists in both England and Scotland who can be brought in quickly, to assist at all levels.   By maintaining this networked approach to the work, Murrell Ashworth LLP is able to offer a competitively priced service, tailored to the individual requirements of the project and, usually on a fixed fee basis.  This allows projects to budget accordingly and also builds in the flexibility for our team to be brought in at an early stage, often on a contingent basis, so that we can support and provide expertise as soon as possible, without creating unsustainable costs for the project.
